Facing the Wooden Power Loom
It started around the time the “wooden power loom” arrived from Nepal. It is the same loom I introduced in the article about the loom from Nepal. Looking at the wooden crates lined up in front of him, words like “dream” and “plan” suddenly stopped feeling so easy to use. What stood there, as heavy and large as the crates themselves, was a reality with nowhere to hide. The boss looked at it and went quiet for a while. I imagine his mind held both “Maybe I’ve really done it now…” and “So this is where it finally begins…” at the same time.
To be honest, there was no grand strategy behind arranging this wooden power loom. The reasons were more like, “I was simply curious,” “I wanted to try using it,” and “I wanted to see how far I could go.” At first, the motivation really was that light.
And that is why the boss is restless now――. Installation, assembly, adjustment, understanding, test runs, operation… once you start thinking, the list of things to do never ends. So it is no surprise that he is feeling a bit like Decision Overload. But at the same time, he also looks like he is enjoying it. His face seems to say, “I don’t know if it’ll work, but surely we can make something happen.”
From my perspective, this state is surprisingly healthy. Being cautious means he can see the risks. Feeling excited means he still wants to move forward. Having both at the same time is neither reckless nor timid; it is actually a very healthy place to be.
I think the boss will remain restless in front of the wooden power loom for a while. But the excitement is clearly stronger than the nervousness, and it does not look as though he will be stopping anytime soon.
The boss is usually charging ahead at full speed, so I even find myself thinking, “A little nervousness is probably just right!” 🤣
