Iga Countryside — Riding Bucephalus Past Twilight Rice Paddies

After a busy day’s work, I rode on my beloved Bucephalus (a 50cc Super Cub 😅) through the Iga countryside, as if trying to shake off the fatigue that had been building lately. When I reached the edge of the village, this view appeared before me.

By the way, “Bucephalus” was Alexander the Great’s beloved horse. I named my own ride after that famous horse⋯🤣

Iga Countryside — Rice Paddies at Twilight

As I have written before in “Go, Bucephalus! On and On, Wherever the Road Leads!” and “Twilight Touring”, the light at dusk always feels special. But this view, with rice paddies stretching out just after planting, was more than simply beautiful. It made me feel the weight of people’s lives and work continuing here, unbroken, for hundreds of years.

Everyday life in the Iga countryside, constantly chasing farm work, can become so busy that it leaves me speechless. Yet when I stand before this quiet mirror of water, the feeling “I’m really glad I came here after all” rises from the bottom of my heart.
