Following our previous post, “Building a Dyeing Kamado for a 100-Liter Pot (Part 1)”, we continue the story of building a kamado for our large dye pot.
A large pot, plenty of dye liquor, and a wood fire burning underneath—when you think about it, this is quite a substantial piece of dyeing equipment. Once the base was complete, the top slab was set in place, and the work of giving the structure the shape of a kamado began.

Once the top slab was set in place, the base—which until then had looked like nothing more than concrete blocks—suddenly began to look like the place where the kamado would take shape. During the work, the height and level are checked carefully with a laser level and a spirit level.
If it were me, I might be tempted to say, “That’s about right,” and keep going. Watching this work, however, you can see the difference a professional makes. Even a slight tilt or misalignment cannot be left as it is when bricks will be stacked above and a large pot will eventually sit on top.
僕なら「だいたいこの辺かな」と進めてしまいそうなところですが、こういうところを見ると、やはりプロの仕事は違います。ほんの少しの傾きやずれも、この先レンガを積み、大きな鍋を載せることを考えれば、そのままにはできません。

位置が決まると、いよいよレンガ積みです。赤いレンガが一つ、また一つと並び始めました。まだこの段階では、「竈ができた！」という姿ではありません。
けれども、レンガが並び始めると、どこに火が入り、どこに鍋が載るのか、少しずつ形が想像できるようになってきます。前回までは、頭の中で思い描いていた100リットルの大鍋用の竈。それが、実際の大きさを持った物として、目の前に立ち上がり始めました。

The kamado is still a work in progress. From here, how will it be built to support the 100-liter pot, and how will the fire be directed through the structure?
I am looking forward to seeing the finished form myself. Now, what shape will this large kamado take from here?
