Growing Pumpkins | Roasting Our First Harvest Whole

This year, I grew pumpkins for the first time. They were miniature pumpkins, to be precise. I planted them without really knowing how to grow them, but when I checked this morning, I found three adorable little pumpkins hiding beneath the leaves.

Things do not always go well in a home garden, but harvesting something you grew yourself is always a joy. Ever since the days of “We Started a Potager Garden”, the pleasure of growing food and eating it has not changed.

So I roasted one whole right away—and then⋯

Time to eat!

Delicious! 😁

Incidentally, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries’ “How to Choose a Pumpkin”, pumpkins continue to ripen after harvest. Letting them rest for a while reduces moisture and increases their sweetness.

This time I could not wait and ate it right away⋯. Next time, maybe I will try being patient for a little while first.
