Bamboo and fallen branches collected during satoyama maintenance are used as fuel for botanical dyeing at Hitotsuya’s Iga workshop.
Hitotsuya restored an old kamado stove and began dyeing yarn and cloth with bamboo and wood produced through local woodland maintenance.
We harvested the year’s first bamboo shoots on the hill behind us, tended the grove, used dead bamboo as fuel to prepare the shoots, and enjoyed them for dinner.
