本日から、ひとつ屋も通常の業務をスタートします！ 今年は “再スタート元年” と位置づけ、見て見ぬふりをしてきたさまざまな問題に向き合おうと思っています。できることなら、その再生や復活に尽力したいとも真摯に考えています。一年の計は元旦にあり――、それを祈願して、迎春の準備を整え、元日の早朝には村の鎮守さまにお参りし、新春をお祝いしました。質素ながらも、身の引き締まるお正月を迎えることができました。
そんな平穏な元日が暮れようとした夕方、私の暮らす伊賀（三重県）でも家がミシミシと音を立てながら揺れるほどの大きな地震が能登半島でありました。そして、その翌日には航空機の大事故――。
改めて “今日まで生きていることの意味” を考えさせられます。
三が日が明けやらぬ間に「おめでとうございます」と言うのが憚れる年明けとなってしまいました。末文ではございますが、地震・事故でお亡くなりになられた方々に謹んでお悔やみ申し上げますとともに、 苦悩されている方々に心よりお見舞い申し上げます。
