Akaso
しとしとを秋の長雨が続く先日のお彼岸、久しぶりに息子を連れて母の実家へ行き、お墓参りをしてきました。母の実家は岐阜県のとある山里――。周辺は染料植物の宝庫です!!
In Japan, There is a long rainy period in autumn. It was raining on Autumnal Equinox Day the other day. That day, I went to my grandmother’s house with my son after a long absence. And we went to see my grandfather ‘s grave. My grandmother’s house is in the countryside very much. The surroundings of her house is a rich repository of dye botanical.
今回の目的は、もちろん!! お墓参り!! のはずですが、やはり染料植物が気になります。で、今回どうしても採取して、ひとつ屋染料農園に植えたかったのが「あかそ（赤麻）」です。
Our purpose is to visit the grave, but I I’m interested in dye botanical. Therefore, I collected only the dye botanicals that I wanted from before.
文字どおり、赤麻（あかそ）は “赤い麻” で、木綿が日本に移入される前には、この植物の茎から繊維をとって織物にされたようです。古くは、この植物の栽培が推奨さえたこともあったそうです。また、葉を煮出すと赤い染料をとれ、布を美しい紅色に染めることができます。
I got a plant “Akaso” in Japanese（I do not know the name in English）. It is a perennial herb that grows in mountains and grasslands. It is a weed. But from this plant we get red dyes and fibers that resemble hemp.
でも、どこででも見られる植物らしいのですが、大阪市内では見ることがないので、今回わざわざ岐阜で採取したものをひとつ屋染料農園に移植しました。
Akaso is a plant everywhere in the countryside, but I can not see it in Osaka city where I live. So I planted this Akaso in my garden.
涼しいところで採取した植物なので、酷暑の夏となる大阪で育つかは疑問ですが、頑張って育ててみます。来年には、これを使って赤麻染を計画しています。ぜひ!! お楽しみに!!
Akaso is a plant I got in a cool place, so I’m worried about growing up in Osaka, which is very hot in summer. I carefully cultivate this. Next year, I plan to dye using Akaso. I am looking forward to it.
