Flowers in full bloom, fresh greenery, and autumn leaves――Sakura(cherry trees), which changes color with the seasons, has been loved by the Japanese people. Branches before cherry blossoms bloom are used for Kusakizome(plants dyeing). But it has long been called “the fools who cut cherry trees, the fools who don’t cut plum trees” in Japan, so we cannot get the branches of cherry blossoms. It’s even harder to get the branches before they bloom. However, we can easily get the fallen leaves in the gardens and parks. What’s more, we can dye great colors more easily and in less time than using branches. We explain in detail how to dye using cherry leaves in this video. Please try dyeing traditional Japanese colors obtained from nature!
