染色にかかわる者にとって“聖地”の一つともいえるのがインドのジャイプールです。古くからさまざまな染色技法が伝承され、色鮮やかで美しい模様のブロックプリントは特に有名です。そのうえ、そのほとんどが今も天然染料のみで染められています。
随分と前から一度は訪ねてみたいと願っていたのがジャイプールです。
なんと！ 昨日、そんなジャイプールから素敵なお客様がありました。しかも、その道のスペシャリストたちです！
インドの草木染について詳しく教えていただくことができ、日本の技法とは異なった新たな発見がたくさんありました。
さらに、ひとつ屋でインドの伝統的な草木染の染料や道具を取り扱うことにもなりそうです。
ジャイプールを訪ねてみたいという思いから、この歳になって“留学したい！”という思いに変わりました。
