かつては世界一の生糸生産国であった日本。1950年代には世界の生産量の約60%を占めていましたが、今では国内消費の99.8％が海外からの輸入品となり、それ以前の絹（養蚕）文化も失われてしまいました。ひとつ屋では、古い時代の素朴な絹製品に憧れて、小規模ながらも養蚕に取り組もうと、数年前からコツコツと準備を重ねてきました。
そして、いよいよ今日から本格的に養蚕を始めます！ といっても、飼育担当は“虫好きの妻”ですが—（笑）。
きっと、想定していなかったいろんな問題が起こるでしょう。心が折れそうになることもあるかと思います。そんなとき、いつも自分に言い聞かせているのが“ローマは一日にして成らず”と“だんだんよくなる法華の太鼓”の言葉。必ず！いつかはうまくいくはずです。さぁ！ 私たちは“あこがれのシルク”を目指して頑張ります。

Japan was once the world’s number one producer of raw silk. Japan accounted for approximately 60% of the world’s production in the 1950s, but today Japan relies on imports from overseas for 99.8% of that production. With the decline of the silk industry, the pre-modern sericulture culture was also lost. We have been longing for the simple silk products of an older era, and have been preparing for several years to start sericulture, albeit on a small scale.
And from today, we will start sericulture in earnest! However, the person in charge of breeding them is my wife who loves insects—(lol).
I’m sure we will encounter many problems that we never imagined. And I think there may be times when you feel like your heart is about to break. At times like these, I always remind myself of the proverb, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” Someday we should be fine. We will do our best to become the “coveted silk.”
