Rhaphiolepis umbellata seeds
先日、知人から車輪梅（シャリンバイ）の実をいただきました。ちょうど今が、この実のなるころだそうです。

以前から車輪梅に興味があったのでとてもうれしいプレゼントです。というのも、この植物に含まれるタンニンで染まる黒褐色が非常に魅力的に感じるからです。ちなみに、車輪梅は奄美大島で「テーチ木」ととばれ、その幹や根を煎じた染料を泥で媒染したのが、あの「大島紬（おおしまつむぎ）」の色です。

By the way, Rhaphiolepis umbellata is called “tēchigi” in Amami Oshima,”Oshima Tsumugi” is dyed with this plant and mud in it island.

インターネットで調べてみると、この実の黒紫色の皮をむいてから湿らせた砂に混ぜて冷蔵庫に保管し、春に土に植えると芽を出すそうです。さらに、常緑の葉が美しいうえに強い刈り込みにも耐えるので生垣に適しているそうです。染料にもなるし、美しい生垣にもなるのか！ それはいいことを知りました！ 早速、皮をむいて砂に混ぜて冷蔵庫へ！ 芽が出たら伊賀の古民家の庭へ植えて利用しようと思います。が、何年後のことになるだろう!? ちょっと気の遠くなる夢ですね(笑)。
