中庭から見える里山の端に大きな欅（けやき）があります。冬の北風のなかも、月夜の夜も、雨の日も、輝かしい新緑の季節も—、いつも変わらず、どっしりとここにいます。この木のように、自分を見失わず、他人に流されず、いい時も悪い時も一喜一憂せず力強く生きてほしい！と、息子に「欅」の意味のある名をつけたのは20年も前のこと。そして、今は私自身がそうありたいと願っています。
There is a large zelkova on the edge of the satoyama seen from the courtyard. He’s here all the time, whether it’s a winter northerly day, a moonlit night, a rainy day, or a brilliant fresh green season. I gave his son the name that meaning of zelkova, hoping that he would live as powerfully as this tree without hesitation. And now I want to be that way.
